Abstract:

As the result of further field work, Thomas Ziegler, Vu Ngoc Thanh et al. added nine formerly not yet recorded species to the region's karst forest snake fauna, thus increasing the total number of snakes known from Phong Nha – Ke Bang to 59 species. The recent snake discoveries from Phong Nha – Ke Bang represent more than 70 % of the last decade’s snake discoveries from the whole Vietnam. Moreover, Hendrix et al. provided an updated anuran list for the Phong Nha - Ke Bang NP, in which five species were recorded for the first time from that karst forest area. According to these latter authors, a total of 47 anuran species are known for Phong Nha - Ke Bang NP, comprising 30% of the whole Vietnam’s anuran fauna. We so far described 12 new amphibian and reptilian taxa from this geographically isolated area in the past decade.
